The Section of Behavioral Medicine of The Finnish Society of Social Medicine was founded in 1994. The purpose of the section is to promote the development of behavioral medicine in order to better understand the complex relationships between behavior, health and illness.
The Section of Behavioral Medicine organizes once a year a seminar on a relevant topic of behavioral medicine and an open lecture is arranged in context of the annual meeting of the section. The section promotes distribution and exchange of scientific information on behavioral medicine and collaborates with other sections of The Finnish Society of Social Medicine as well as other national and international Societies.
The Finnish Section of Behavioral Medicine has about 70 members who share a common interest in behavioral aspects of health and illness. The members represent various scientific disciplines such as medicine, public health, psychology, sociology and social and behavioral sciences.
The Finnish Section of Behavioral Medicine is a member society of The International Society of Behavioral Medicine (ISBM). ISBM publishes The International Journal of Behavioral Medicine and organizes The International Congress of Behavioral Medicine every second year.
Membership facilitates co-operation between researchers on the same field. Members belong to an email list, through which they are informed about, e.g., international and national congresses and other events related to behavioral medicine. Members receive discount on the participation fee of The International Congress of Behavioral Medicine.
Anyone interested in behavioral medicine is welcome to join The Finnish Section of Behavioral Medicine. Annual membership fee is that of the Society of Social Medicine. For further information, please contact the secretary of the section Olli Kiviruusu, email: name.familyname(at)thl.fi
